Skilt is run by Richard and Max from their base in
Bethnal Green, London.
Richard is the designer, sample maker, production
co-ordinator, webmaster and general pain in the arse.
Max is the photographer, sales manager, and generally
grounded one who keeps Richard from throwing his toys
out of his pram (again).
Richard and Max met in May 2009 thanks to Richard's
kilt and facial hair and Max's curiosity about what
lay beneath...
We would also like to take this opportunity to thank
our extended team: our local suppliers. We could not
do this without you.
Alternative Fashion Week - April
19 to 23 2010
We are delighted to have been selected to show our
work at Alternative Fashion Week this year. We will
post more details as we get them.
ALTERNATIVE ARTS presents East London’s major
fashion event – Alternative Fashion Week. From
April 19 to 23 Spitalfields will play host to the
most original and creative collections by a fresh
crop of new designers with truly innovative ideas.
ALTERNATIVE FASHION WEEK is where all the best new
designers are to be discovered. It provides a genuine
alternative for them to present their work directly
to the press, public and the fashion industry. Designers
come from all over the UK and other parts of the world
including Russia, the USA, Europe, India and Japan.
OVER SEVENTY DESIGNERS will be selected to show their
work. Hundreds of applications are received from independent
designers aiming to establish their labels to recent
fashion and textile graduates. Expect anything from
elegant to edgy.
FOURTEEN DIFFERENT designers will show each day.
Original and recycled textiles are a major feature.
There’ll be womenswear and menswear from the
sublime to the sensational, with an emphasis on environmental
awareness and ethical sourcing.
STUNNING NEW MODELS will be taking to the catwalk
with many arriving hot from the special model training
course run for 6 weeks prior to Alternative Fashion
Week.
FASHION SHOWS will be open to the Press and Public
daily at 1.15pm accompanied by live contemporary jazz.
2-BOB - 30 January 2010
We are proud to sponsor a Burns night event with
a difference … a JOINT celebration of two of
the worlds greatest poets, separated by Time and Tide,
Bob Burns 25th January and Bob Marley 6th February,
- Uniting Two Nations, Two Cultures, One People through
Food, Drink, Prose, Verse and Music in an event to
raise money for a new educational exchange project
to break down historical barriers between cultures
and provide the new
generation the opportunity to grow together with first-hand
educated understanding of their respective histories,
traditions and lifestyles in different parts of the
world, in order
for them to unite in their similarities and become
fuller in their appreciation of their differences.
The Event is to take place on Saturday 30th January
at Anda de Bridge Carribean Restaurant and Club/Bar
in Shoreditch. It’s a London Venue steeped in
the very history that the event epitomises …
the story of a friendship between two men of different
colour, from different cultures, countries, who were
united without prejudice to work together to show
their children that the colour of their skin is not
something to separate
them or hold them back in the pursuit of their dreams.
BEAT 22 December 2009
Andreas Grant writes: "Our x-mas presents this
year come from our proud sponsor: Skilt. Who will
spread gift vouchers like snow flakes over our beautiful
audience. As you very well know, no gentleman with
self respect will be caught out in the early mornings
of 2010 witout a kilt on and your favourite place
for such a purchase, is of course Skilt - the UK Nr:
1 in cool designer kilts!"
And we did a fashion show!
Tate Modern, 'Rob Pruitt's Flea
Market' - 12 December 2009
We were pleased to be chosen to exibit in a festive
reprise of Rob Pruitt's Christmas and Kwanzaa (an
African-American festival) version of the 'Flea Market'
event, programmed to coincide with the exhibition
Pop Life: Art in a Material World, in which Pruitt
also appears.
Originally held at Gavin Brown's Passerby gallery
in New York in the late 1990s, then featuring artist
peers including Elizabeth Peyton, Piotr Uklanski and
Rikrit Tiravanija, Pruitt's Flea Market is a playful
take on a curated group exhibition cum entrepreneurial
initiative.
For Tate Modern, Pruitt has worked with a new selection
of London-based artists, plus some of the original
participants, to set up market stalls with everything
from artists editions to old 12"s, in a seasonal
flavour.
